strengths and challenges

My strengths of good writing are choosing a topic and word choice. I'm ok at developing paragraphs but not really. I use very sophisticated sounding words when I write an English paper to make it seem more interesting.   Challenges for me are pretty much everything. I'm not good at writing papers because it's just difficult for me. I can't understand the concepts we learn in class. Therefore, I can't use them to help me write a paper because I don't know them.

hits and misses

My hits for writing were my blogs. They are only 2 paragraphs which isn't too bad and its easy to just fill it in. Most of the time I like the topics we get to write about because luckily I usually have a story that will apply to it. Blogs are just plain easy to write and I like doing it.   My misses were every English paper we had to write in class. Im not good at writing and I don't know how to be good at it. I feel like my only good thing in writing a paper is word choice. I also usually have a good topic to write about, but thats not whats graded so it doesn't do so well anyways.

what places do you remember fondly from childhood?

A place I remember very well is the second house I ever lived in which was in New Orleans like my first house. It was our brand new house we just moved into. My sister was not even born yet when we moved in (this was when I was almost 2). I do not know how I remember this house so well because we had it for only about a year until Hurricane Katrina hit the hardest in our area. I even know my address from the old house and my parents don't know that I know that because I was so young. We lived on 324 Spencer Avenue in the Lakeview area. We lived on the corner, closest to the levy that broke in the hurricane, so we weren't going to be moving back to New Orleans.       While we were empty of having a house, we lived in at our camp in Natchez, Mississippi. I remember the power going out while the Hurricane was still going on because it had come to Natchez. We lived at our camp for a long time before buying the house I am living in right now. I remember one time...

PH response

So far I am actually really enjoying Purple Hibiscus for an assigned book. It's so real, nothing is filtered. It really creeps me out how religious this family is and how absolutely crazy their father is which draws me into the book even more because it is not normal. My two reading focus topics, gender and race, are applying to most of the book which gives me a lot to talk about.     For gender, it's the pretty basic: man of the house goes to work, woman stays home to take care of everyone. There isn't much interesting or abnormal things that go into gender, but race has a whole lot. People who are Nigerian get killed easily, are poor unless they are somebody like Eugene, and lack all resources. It's the pretty basic stuff that also has a wide variety of situations.

Delta and the Gun Control Rally, By: Allen H. Fisher - The New York Times        In this news article, Delta and the Gun Control Rally,  Allen H. Fisher has gathered that Delta Airlines has proposed a new idea; that students flying somewhere to give a presentation of some sort should get a discount on their flight. The company finds it will be inspirational to every aspect of the cause. Delta is willingly allowing other airlines to use this idea to "give a needed lift to these brave young people, who are doing what adults have lacked the fortitude to do." They state it would also be good for business having more people go.        I 100% agree with this idea to come into play. I think it's awesome what these kids who are my age doing and I think they should get some respect for it by having a discount. I feel like it will show that airlines care too about these debates. So many people would use th...

creative free write

I am writing about the time I got both of my cats and my dog for my free post. So when I was in second grade I remember getting my very first pet, which was my cat Bill. He's a yellow tabby cat and he is also the most normal sized pet out of all of mine. He eats like a normal cat and doesn't over eat. Bill is an inside and outside cat. We let both of my cats in and out when they feel like it. My other cat Rowdy, that I got in probably 4th grade who is about 2 years younger than Bill, is also a yellow tabby cat who has the same mom as Bill, but not the same liter. Rowdy is a big fat cat who does over eat and weighs about 20 pounds. He sleeps all day, but he does go outside too like Bill.    Years later I got my dog Thomas. I was in seventh grade when I got him and he was just six months old. I remember the day we got him we didn't actually plan on keeping him. We wanted to foster him for just a few hours and when it was time to bring him back my sister and I wer...

PH respoonse

So far I am really enjoying Purple Hibiscus. It does kind of all relate to one topic and that is basically Jesus, but I find that interesting how religious people can be. I thought I was religious because I go to church on Sunday with my family, but this family is on a way higher level of religion than I could imagine. I find it surprising how much they pray, how much the kids try to please their father, and how much drama they have.     My two reading topics I chose to focus on are race and gender. I chose these two because in a way they relate like with separation and privileges each can have. For the race topic, this book gives a lot of insight for it with Nigerian people being taken away for the smallest things that aren't that big of a deal. For gender there isn't much except for the basic concept that women work the house and men make the money.

The BFF Song- LEGO friends

I chose to analyze The BFF Song by LEGO Friends. The very simple song uses some techniques that are pretty normal. There isn't very much rhyming, only in a few stanza's. They use repetition with a different ending like for example the verse down below shows what a few stanza's involve on them. Sometimes we all get scared Sometimes we all feel sad That’s when you need a friend(need a friend) Bea , bea , bea ,bes..t , bea Bea, bea, bea, B-F-F, b, b, b You can see the first two and last two lines both have repetition with a different ending.  In the chorus dow below, every last word of a line rhymes with the one before it most of the time. Best friends forever Forever and ever No, no, no matter what We stick together Best friends forever Forever and ever Me and my girls we’re best friends forever (BFF) best friends (okay) (BFF) forever The overall meaning of this song is that friends should never separate and should always stay by each oth...

school poem

Ready to go in the car to school. The bell ringing telling me to get up and go I feel the flow of people getting to class. The constant learning hurting my brain. Walking to lunch getting more energy from my food. I used personification, imagery, and alliteration

free post

For my free post I'm writing about a vacation I went on this past summer. I went on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. This was my second time going on that cruise to the Bahamas and I hope I can go again in the future. It was a very cool experience that is unforgettable.    I met 2 new people that became really goof friends of mine. I talk to one of them everyday and I can tell her anything because she lives all the way in Pennsylvania so she cant go blabbing around any secrets I have. We met at a club on the cruise on the second day out of the 5 day trip. We went to the private island in the Bahamas together and would spend everyday together 24/7.

LAUNCH post

My first launch day was very exciting and I enjoyed it very much. I liked not having classes all day and instead I got to have fun with my friends. The day did feel very long though and I was running out of energy. I liked the presentations in front go the whole school the most out of all of them.    One presentation that I thought was really interesting was Caroline's one about food. I feel like that one was super relatable to everybody. I like how she figured out how stores are set up to spend all your money on things you want, not need. The needs are in the back and the wants are what you first see when you walk in.

research update

research question: Why was feudalism a successful system of governance and social hierarchy in the Middle Ages?   Feudalism is what changed economy around the world. It's like a bigger version of trading, but different. I wanted to study it during the Middle Ages because that's when it came about. I think feudalism is very interesting because a person could have land by only paying with their loyalty and service which is just very different.     I thought this would be an easier topic to do a research project on because we have already done a unit on it in history class. I'm not the best at history, but I comprehended the feudalism topic pretty well and thought it would be easy for me.

ATDPTI

Junior is described as the stereotypical kid in movies and other books who would get bullied constantly. He takes in what is said to him very personally. Junior has a best friend completely different than him that could be loyal, but he doesn't know for sure.    Moving schools to Reardan, he is a nervous wreck. He seems intimidated by all the kids he goes to school with, but he always ends uprighting someone. I can't wait to see how Junior turns out further on in the book.
